Sober Haven Bali …a boutique holiday experience on a magical island… OR Sober Haven Bali …a decadent spa and yoga retreat on a magical island…

About Us

Late one afternoon in 1972 Brian H flew to the island of Bali and watched a brilliant sunset over the wing of his plane from Jakarta.

By noon on the following day he was smitten having wandered around the expansive grounds of the hotel and a local village.

It seemed as though the worries of the world had slipped off him like a heavy winter coat. Although he has travelled and lived in many parts of Asia it has always been Bali that calls him to return time after time;  so much so that Brian took up permanent residence in Bali in 2000.

Brian H has be an active member of  12 step program since 1984 and while business called him away in 2002 to reside in other cities throughout Asia, Bali has always been his retreat when it is time to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of the Asian megacities. The magic still returns every time he arrives to what he considers his spiritual home.

Brian H wishes to share the magic of Bali with others who desire to escape for a week of adventure, tranquility and fellowship. Thus was born Sober Haven Bali.

As part of the stay in Bali there are regular meetings of various 12 step groups that are attended on a daily basis; as well as morning retreat meetings over breakfast for the early risers before tours and activities.

The tour guides, instructors and staff at Sober Haven Bali are all members of a 12 step group. Guests are surrounded by staff who understand and can appreciate the strength and hope gained through a happy and joyous vacation. They will be doing their utmost to make your stay a safe, sober and memorable vacation.

Brian's Favorite Quote

“I have an idea that some men are born out of their due place. Accident has cast them amid certain surroundings, but they always have a nostalgia for a home they know not.
Perhaps it is this sense of strangeness that sends men far and wide in search of something permanent to which they may attach themselves….Sometimes a man hits upon a place to which he mysteriously feels he belongs. Here is the home he sought, and he will settle amid scenes that he has never seen before, among men he has never known, as thought they were familiar to him from his birth”    W. Somerset Maugham
